Spud experiment

A month ago when I was in a spending kind of mood, I bought a grow bag from Gardener’s Supply Company. I am going to try growing potatoes. Our soil is heavy clay, miserable for growing most anything, and particularly inhospitable to potatoes.

On Friday I chitted the potatoes and let them dry. today, I filled the grow bag about 4 inches deep with mushroom compost and shredded leaves. I planted 7 potato fragments. Hope that isn’t too many. The bag is parked on the gravel next to the cold fame. I will gradually fill the bag with straw as the potatoes grow.

I love experiments!
