A garden Underground

All gardeners know that amazing and critically important life exists underground. Typically we think of this life in the form of the soil food web: earthworms, bacteria, fungus, protozoa, and nematodes. But in central London, another world exists altogether: A 2.5 acre, carbon-neutral garden is taking shape in disused Tube tunnels.

The garden will supply restaurants, supermarkets, and wholesalers from beneath the Clapham North Underground station, just a few stops from the nightlife of the West End, and where seventy years ago, Londoners sheltered from air raids during World War II.

You can contribute to the crowdfunding effort.
